Default Explorer Search Automatically Restarting

Problem/Issue:

When I perform a search in windows explorer and display the results,
without me doing anything other than clicking Stop, the search
automatically begins again.

This happens repeatedly every 3-10 seconds even after I click Stop
until I close the window. This happens on every XP machine I've used.

Does anyone know what causes this behavior and how to prevent it?
