I've had my Service Pack 1 Windows XP professional disc for a long time, and
I've had to reinstall with it quite a few times. Every time I reinstall it
takes forever to update, and with my newest hardware I almost wasn't able to
get XP to run because it did not have service pack 2 out of the box(conflict
with some BIOS settings, had to put BIOS in safe mode). What I want to know,
is will Microsoft exchange my service pack 1 XP disc for a service pack 2 XP
disc?

I doubt they would exchange - and you do not say how you update to SP2 - in
case you are not aware you can order a CD of SP2 - ITS FREE :-)

Yes, I already have a free service pack 2 CD. What I'm saying is its hard to
get my computer to operate with SP1 long enough to install SP2, and it still
would be nice not to have to install SP2 at all. Thanks for your reply
though, I guess I might just have to spring for another copy of XP.

Why? It should almost never be necessary.

If you are getting a message about an "older version," you are not
doing a clean reinstallation properly. When you do a clean
installation, it begins by formatting the drive, so it doesn't matter
what's installed there. Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the
BIOS boot order if necessary to accomplish this) and follow the
prompts for a clean installation (delete the existing partition by
pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).

??? There's no such thing as BIOS "Safe Mode." Safe mode is a mode
that Windows can run in. Exactly how did you do this?
