Default Exact memory requirement

Hi,

Is there a way to find out how much of memory is actually being used at any
point in time? Does the commit number in task manager indicate the memory
used?

The purpose is to determine the amount of memory required in my PC. I
already have 512MB (2 x 256) but i find the commit figure most of the time
around 650MB (at times reaching 750MB) and slows down the system
tremendously. I need to decide whether to replace a 256 with 512MB (768MB
total) or 1GB (total 1.25GB).

Any guidance please?

Thanks in advance.
Ramesh

Default Re: Exact memory requirement

The task manager help file says commit is memory allocated to programs and
the system. If the number is greater than the amount of physical memory,
then virtual memory is included as well. Since you are seeing system
performance slow when the commit number is large, that is a pretty clear
indication that paging is occurring and additional ram should help.
