Erase Disc CD-RW hangs and hangs

I tried to erase my CD-RW disc but it hangs and grabs resources so other
applications are extremely slow. The wizard initiates ok, advises 35 minutes
to erase and progressively works down to advise 5 seconds to go but then
hangs. After another 20 minutes I decide to terminate. The only way I can
stop it is by removing the battery. I've tried twice with the same result.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Just a thought but does this happen with all RW discs or just this one?
