Default Editing "Open With" options.

Where, in the registry, does one find entries for "Open With" right-click
sub-menu options.

Also, where are the entries for "Auto-Play" options when an optical disk is
inserted ?

Regards and thanks in anticipation.

can't help on the autoplay

--------------------

in regards to the open with listing
it is no longer a single registry
key having a listing of open-with
programs, although when one
right clicks on a file a listing
does appear.

instead the listing fluctuates
depending on the file extension.

you can see the registry
keys for the extensions
and their open-with sub keys
via regedit branch:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft

\ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts

------------------------

editing the open-with listing

with a utility may be easier:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_open_with.htm

the above is designed to easily

"clear out" open with associations.

[as you may know by now you

can recreate the open with

association by right clicking

on the file via explorer].

---------

what you can do is to have

both your registry and the utility

opened and pointed to .txt .

also have explorer opened with any

txt file highlighted and view its

open with listing before you

use the utility.

now test the utility on that

one extension.

then examine the change to

txt registry sub key.

then right click on

a txt file to see the

modification to the open

with listing.

[keep in mind that txt

files are generally opened

with notepad.exe].

Thanks very much indeed for the very helpful and informative response. That
