I had no reply to a post yet so that's why I went looking for my original. (I
would have had an email and I could have used a link).
I had trouble finding it (I did finally find it). What's the best way to
remember (or find out ) the group I posted the question to?
Is a particular group more likely to reply? Do weekends make it easier or
harder to get a reply?
Thanks

The reason you are having difficulties is that you are using the web
interface to these Usenet newsgroups. This is the worst possible way to
access the groups. Instead, set up a newsreader - this is very easy to
do. There are many good newsreaders for Windows but you can use Outlook
Express since you already have it. These links will show you how and
also answer your questions:

First, note that this really isn't what you call a "discussion group."
It's a newsgroup. You are using the web interface to read this
newsgroup, and that's the slowest, clunkiest, most error-prone method
there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader, such as
Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm
When you use a newsreader, you can have it flag your own posts.
Finding your own messages and replies to them will be much easier.
>Is a particular group more likely to reply?
Well, you should be choosing what newsgroup to post to based on the
nature of your question, not on likelihood of getting a reply. If you
have a Microsoft Word problem, you are much more likely to get the
help you need if you ask in a Word newsgroup than a Windows XP one,
and vice versa.

In general it doesn't matter, and you should ask a question whenever
it comes up. Many of us participate in newsgroups both on weekdays and
weekends. If someone doesn't see your question because you posted in
on a Sunday and he's not available, he'll probably see it and answer
on Monday.

If you persist in using the web interface then the easiest way to locate a
previous post is search for it using Google Groups Advanced search. You can
search for your name as author, searching in all newsgroups or in the MS
newsgroups, microsoft.public.*, or in the XP newsgroups, etc. Here is a
link:
I echo the advice from Malke and Ken, best is to use a newsreader to access
what are actually Usenet newsgroups.
Whether and in what time frame a post receives a response can vary depending
in no small measure on whether anyone knows the answer. The best thing you
can do to ensure an accurate and quick response is to make a _good_ post,
including all the relevant details, without making it overly long but
accurate, and use good spelling, grammar, punctuation and paragraph breaks.
2 of the replies (thank you) suggest using Outlook for newsgroups. I do not
use Outlook for email. Is it still OK to use for newsgroup?
Thanks

No, it's *not* possible to use Outlook for newsgroups. Outlook does
*not* do newsgroups. What was suggested is using Outlook *Express* (a
very different program) for newsgroups.
>I do not

Yes (assuming you mean Outlook Express). Whether you use Outlook,
Outlook Express, or neither, for E-mail, you can use Outlook Express
for newsgroups (start OE with the /newsonly switch).
But also note that there are many possible newsreaders, and most of
them are good. I suggested using any newsreader, rather than the awful
web-based interface. I also suggested Outlook Express as an easy and
good way to get started, because you already have it, since it comes
with Windows. If you later want to switch to a different newsreader,
you can do that.

Thanks for the clarification.
I have used both Outlook and OE in the past and I know they are different. I
saw the first word and jumped to my next Q (I'm not using it for email).
I apologize for that.
I am pretty good with this thing so I am surprised that I'm not being
efficient with the newsgroup reading/posting.
Thanks for the guidance, I appreciate it very much.
