"Bill in Co." bought a new system with XP pre-installed in early
January, so he's stuck with it.

If he was here back in late 2001, I'm sure he did say that.

Actually, I've seen Vista Home on a couple of new systems I helped
people buy/setup and I like it. On the surface, it appears to be
mostly a cosmetic change from XP, but it looks nice.

Having been with XP since it was first released, I do find it hard to
find some of the things I want to do in Vista, but if I had it on this
system, I'd find them soon enough.

However, I don't think it's worth the price to upgrade to Home, and it
is CERTAINLY not worth the price to upgrade to one of the fancier
versions.

XP does what I want, and my system has been rock-solid for over 6
years... and that has taken it through a compete computer rebuild,
where I cloned the old drive to the new system drive and then did a
repair install.

It's characteristic of contrarian personalities.

Not contrarian, per se (although it may seem that way at times). But I'm
just not buying into all the new age, "new is always better" mantra that so
many sheep dutifully follow (because, afterall, "Microsoft knows what is
best for you, and your system has been deemed ... inadequate").

And I still (generally) like Win98SE better. Less BS in the way of what
you are trying to do, and very little overhead. Plus you can control it
better - the way YOU want it to be, with hardly any impediments.

But there are a few (but precious few) things that I like better in XP.
But some things won't run on Win98SE anymore (even the Tax programs have
just about ditched it)

You didn't answer the question:

"Didn't you say the same thing when WinXP came out?"

Fess up gramps.

For the record, WinXP *is* an albatross in comparison to Win98SE. But
Vista is just that much more of one. (IOW, they are not exclusive).

You can always wipe that drive on your spanking new Dell and install
98SE on it.

Or you can stop yer *****in'... which would be less work.

Check the time stamps. My usenet server didn't show your answer until
after I posted that.
