Default Deleting files in TEMP folder

There is a folder named " C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Rumbaugh\Local
Settings\TEMP " on my laptop that contains 49 subfolders, 1198 files and 1.06
GB of data. Most of these files have an extension of .log, .tmp or .xml.
What are these files and which of them can I delete?

Download, install and run Crap Cleaner after doing a reboot and it will
remove all that crap. Get it at www.ccleaner.com/

YES; YOU CAN SAFELY DELETE ALL OF THEM. OCCASSIONALLY ONE MIGHT BE IN USE BY
'WINDOWS' IF SO YOU WILL GET A WINDOWS WARNING MESSAGE TO CLOSE ACTIVE
PROGRAM FIRST (OR JUST 'LEAVE' THAT FILE UNTIL YOU NEXT REBOOT)

Paul,

Delete as much junk in there as you can, but sometimes not all will delete.
Example: New '~' files

CTRL + A (Select All)
DEL (Delete)
ENTER

You can delete all of them. By definition, anything in a TEMP folder is
temporary, and should have been removed.

ccleaner is one of the better tools for this, far more effective than the XP
cleanup utility.

www.ccleaner.com

Incidentally, this folder exists for each user, and there are one or two
more temp folders as well. And then, there's the Temporary Internet Files
folders, which also exist for each user. These should all be purged.

Finally, check your IE cache settings. By default, they can be
outrageously high. I just set up several systems on which IE decided that
about 2.5 gig was appropriate for cache. These systems have 40 gig drives.
I reset them to 25 meg, which is plenty.

The files in this folder, the corresponding temp folders for any other user
accounts on the system, and the \Windows\Temp folder should be regularly
deleted. Do so after a restart to ensure the installation of new programs
which placed files in there to complete the install, does what it needs to
do. There will be a few files you won't be able to delete because they are
in use.

Please don't post in all Caps. It's hard to read and considered shouting.
Thanks

Paul,

Forget about using 3rd party too clean the temp folder as they are unneeded.

START
RUN
Type %temp% & click OK
CTRL + A (Select All)
DEL (Delete)
ENTER (Confirm Delete)

You planning on being around here very long?

If so, cut the all-caps before everyone killfiles you.
