Default Creating a System Disk on a system without a floppy drive

Windows XP lets me back up my entire system on any drive I want - but insists
I install a floppy disk in my A drive - with no option to use a CD or DVD or
PMD to create a system disk. How do I get around this archaic means of
storage. I haven't had a floppy drive since before my kids were born. My
boot sequence doesn't include a floppy drive either. Very strange software.

Hi,

Never used XP's backup utility, so I can't help you there. But I can
recommend a good 3rd party backup utility which lets you create a boot CD.
Try Macrium Reflect. It compresses images impressively and the boot CD loads
a nice GUI program in which you can use a mouse (unlike some (Norton Ghost
for example) where it's a DOS type environment).

Not as much strange as old. Ntbackup was developed a long time ago when
floppy drives were ubiquitous. You can always install a floppy drive. If
you would rather not do this, use other software. Acronis True Image is
quite popular. If you prefer something free, try DriveImageXML. However,
the latter program does not allow for incremental or differential drive
imaging.
