Cloning

Hi group,

I will be upgrading my HDD soon, and usually do a fresh install with such an
upgrade. THIS time, I would just like to clone this drive and transfer to my
new one, to save time, and this OS is running smooth and I have many gig's
of programs installed. My question is: Is there a freeware cloning tool to
accomplish this? Or one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg with a friendly
UI? Of course I'm running Windows XP Pro with NTFS...

Yes there are. Put 'freeware cloning' into Google.

However, if you've any sense you would get Acronis True Image or Symantec
Ghost. My favourite is Acronis. Money well spent and not expensive,

Most drive manufacturers provide a cloning utility with their (retail boxed)
drives.
Several also provide a cloning utility on their web site if you purchase a
white-box drive.

One option is to use the copy utility provided by the drive manufacturer.
With a retail kit this is included on a floppy or CD in the box. Otherwise
download it from the drive manufacturer's web site.

In terms of commercial programs Acronis True Image Home is low cost ( I got
one copy on sale at Newegg.com for $29.99 USD), has a friendly UI, and is
useful afterwards in conjunction with an external drive for imaging the
drive for backup purposes.

Whatever option you choose make sure there is a full and complete backup of
the system beforehand.

I just finished a clone that was ABSOLUTELY flawless (not free)
Good ones have been mentioned.
I found "perfect Image Professional 11" from Avenues to be my choice.
No, It,s not free.
