clas installer error

Trying to install software for a Canon A430 Poweshot digital camera, to
XP Pro with SP1 but receive the following error msg:
"class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade the
device"

The camera appears with a yellow ! in Device Manager, properties show that
the drivers are not installed.
A fix would be appreciated

A few things I found with a Google Groups search:

"Well, in my desperate search for drivers, I found the old windows 2000
drivers and tried to install those.... and they WORKED?!?!!?? :-)

The win2k drivers installed just fine where the winxp drivers wouldn't.
Now I really don't understand that. "
