Does the drive read any disks (CDROM, DVD)?
Take a look in Device Manager to see if the device has an error. To do this
click Start > Run > type "devmgmt.msc" (no quotes) and press enter. Look in
the list for the "DVD/CDROM Drives" item. If the drive listed has a red X or
a yellow ? icon there is a problem with the drive's device installation and
it should be uninstalled and reinstalled.
If you are not tech savy with hardware, have some who is also check the
drive's cable (power, data) inside the computer. Sometimes these need to be
reseated to fix this problem.
* It is also possible that the drive itself could be bad and should be
replaced.
