Just type the source as you see it in the book, save it and then change
the file extension to htm or html. don't be concerned when Windows
complains about the file extension change. The ONLY difference, other
than your typed content, between .TXT and .HTM is the file extension.
Neither type relies on hidden characters or other hidden data.

As RobertVA suggested, you can save as TXT, then find the file using Windows
Explorer and change the extension to HTM. To do this, you must uncheck "Hide
extensions for known filetypes" in Folder Options, View tab.

A simpler way is to use the "Save as type" drop-down menu in the Save
dialogue and change it from Text Documents to All Files, then save the file
with the HTM extension.

To save a step, click "Save As", change the "Save as type" to "All
Files", and save as

Filename.htm

Just type the extension into the name. If you don't change over to All
Files, the name will end up

Filename.htm.txt

Hello,

Enclose the filename in double quotes.

For example, if you want to save the file as MYFILE.HTML, specify it in the
filename as:
"MYFILE.HTML"

This also ignores the Save as type setting.
