Just installed a new dual layer optical drive. Works as expected
accept one thing. I can't erase/reformat a DVD+R DL RW disc? I've
always been able to do so with a single layer, 4.7 Gb DVD RW disc. I
use Nero 7. Nero will erase/reformat a 4.7Gb DVD+R RW but not a dual
layer.
My guess is the answer is basic. I just don't know it. Please help.

Are you sure that the dual-layer disc is a re-writeable? If so, then
spread the word...what brand?

Have you tried looking for the answer on the support page of your DVDRW
Vendor?

AFAIK - DL media (Double Layer or Dual Layer) does not come in a re-writable
format.
Which would mean there *is no formatting/erasing possible* of a DL DVD.
I could be incorrect and you have found some media (DL DVDs) someplace that
is re-writable...
Please tell us where and whom is selling it - although my bet is that it is
quite expensive if it exists.
Dual Layer DVD+R DL RW discs cannot be erased.Their format does not permit this at least for now.

The discs have an RW logo on them, so I assumed they are eraseable/
reformattable/re-writeable, just like the 4.7 Gb versions. I bought
two brands of these. Verbatim and Windata at Microcenter.

I feel silly asking this one: why do the discs have an RW logo on
them? That means re-writeable, correct?
Because they can't be erased, does that also mean that any files that
were put on that disc cannot be overwritten with new files if space is
needed?

I don't know of any re-writable Dual Layer discs, at least not at this point
in time... If the disks were to be re-writable, the disc would have to be
labeled "DVD+RW DL". I'm not sure what the RW stands for that you are
referring to, but even my Single layer write-once (DVD+R) discs have that
small "RW" symbol... That symbol does not indicate that the disc is
re-writable... Sorry...

Yes, I noticed the RW logo on the packaging of some DVD+R discs I purchased
a while ago, but I knew they weren't re-writeable, and it made me wonder why
it was there.
I'm not surprised someone was confused/mislead by it.
