There are many third-party utilities that you might look into:

http://preview.tinyurl.com/wjrlt

To make one of them your default folder viewer will require some
editing in the registry.

And what *is* the other file manager program that you want to use? You
would actually need to have one before you could change to using it.

I have CubixExplorer installed right now, and would like that one to be my
default manager.

If it didn't come with instructions on how to make it the default file
browser/manager, I'm afraid you need to visit this place:

http://www.bloodyhell.com/index.php?...id=20&Itemid=9

Explorer2 Lite comes with such instructions.

Your link is just sending me to a website with jokes on it, the FAQs section
is empty and it seems the wiki for that site is as well.
And I misspelled the name of the manager, it's Cubic Explorer.

Okay, but then from where are you opening folders to then have a
different program commit that action you selected in whatever was the
first application that you used to see the folders? Why wouldn't you be
opening CubixExplorer in the first place to see the folders that you
then want to open? Even Windows Explorer doesn't open by default unless
YOU opened it in the first place (well, there are other ways to open
explorer.exe but then you don't mention how you are starting it in the
first place).

Also, xplorer2 (lite or pro), and PowerFile (from the maker of the old Drag
& File, for anyone here old enough to remember) are pretty good. :-).

Personally, at least at this point, I prefer XYplorer, but YMMV. (for a
basic file manager, not an albatross).

The good thing about all of these is you don't have to wait a few seconds as
you do using windows explorer (for it to finally settle down with all those
extra, superflulous + signs initially presented on *every single folder*
(that change came with IE6).
