How you get into your BIOS setup depends on your motherboard. Read the
Fine Manual that came with your computer or look at some of these links:

You can probably download the manual from the manufacturers website.

You should try looking in device manager and checking the properties for the
network adapters. Allow to wake from standby settings etc..

You say the same time every night, are you sure you haven't set a timer
somewhere? LAN adapters normally wake periodically, not at any specific
time.

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/2157.html

Wim's BIOS Page

How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the
BIOS before Windows even starts to boot. One common way is to press
the Del key when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right
for your computer. Watch the screen carefully when you first boot;
there's often a message there telling you what to do. If not, check
your system documentation or check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or
just try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.

Watch the screen carefully as the machine boots up. Almost always there is a
brief flash of instruction such as:

"Hit <DEL> to enter setup"

"Tap [F2] for setup info"

Do whatever it says.

If the PC is O-F-F, XP is not running. Therefore, XP has nothing to do with
it, including anything noted in device manager.

This is going to be a long thread since you apparently aren't aware of how
to enter the bios setup.

A quick fix is to use a UPS with an ON/OFF switch. Turned off, the PC has
no power. Wake on LAN cannot function if the PC has no power. It also
isolates the PC further from lightning strikes and power surges.

A similar but not as effective device that will also cure your ills is an
under-monitor power control switching assembly.
