Default Athlon 64 and XP 32?

Hi, I have a AMD Athlon 64 processor running on XP Pro 32, it is not right?
Should I move to XP 64? What you think about? Am I loosing the processor
capabilities?

Thanks!

If you have applications that can make use of the 64bit OS
and if you can get drivers for all of your hardware for the 64 bit OS...
you will get better performance...
however for general usage...you may not notice too much of a difference..

If you mention the apps you intend to use...
you may get a little better advice

Why do you wonder if it is not right? The Athlon 64 should run XP Pro
fine.

Do you *need* to?

If I'm thinking about 64-bit XP, I'm wondering if drivers for the rest of
the hardware are available, first.

Then, I'm wondering if I have apps written to run as 64-bit.

There's a lot more to consider than just the processor.

Not unless you really need them to handle very large data files or sets, and
have more than 4 gig memory.

And the processor's 64-bit capabilities are close to meaningless without
software that actually takes advantage of them. Regular versions of most
apps won't.

Unless you also run 64-bit applications (and there are very few so
far), there is almost no benefit to running 64-bit Windows.

Moreover, you may let yourself in for problems, since the 64-bit
drivers you need for all your hardware may not be available.

Hello Paulo,
You really should post in the microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general NG
where there are users who have already installed XP Pro x64 or Vista 64 bit
versions. You should consider dual-booting XP Pro x86 and x64 if you have
enough disk space for two OS's and are willing to partition your system
disk.
Good luck. If it is a laptop computer be sure to get the OEM version from
the manufacturer, not a generic OEM version for a decent outcome.

Since you don't have any 64 bit apps you don't need XP64, and if you did
buy it and install it, would you have 64 bit drivers for all your hardware?
