Default After installing KB930178 file missing or corrupt errors

Hi All,

I installed KB930178 on my XP Pro SP2 computer. I was prompted to
reboot so I did. Now my computer will not boot at all. The 1st error
I got was \Windows\System\vgaoem.fon is missing or corrupt. I then
used my CD to do a repair. After the repair, during the next boot
process, I get an error \Windows\inf\biosinfo.inf is missing or
corrupt. Running a repair a 2nd time does not make a difference. I
still get the same biosinfo.inf error message. I can not even boot
into safe mode because the error message pops up before I can even hit
the F8 key.

Does any one know how to fix this problem?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Charles, was this KB one of the four that just came out recently? If so, I
am in the same boat as you.

Hi,

Yes, it was one of the 4 released on 2007/04/09. I have still not had
any luck getting my computer to boot.

Read the posting titled: "KB931784 - HP DC5700 no boot"

That appears to address what is happening. The only ****er is, I cannot
find the slip of paper in my filing cabinet that has the Administrator
password for me to get into the Recovery Console. My God, tell me why I have
stuck with Microsoft for 15 years?!

What does being unable to keep track of passwords have to do with sticking
with MS or any OS for that matter? I don't know of any OS that cures
S. -

Use this utility to reset the password for the Administrator account.

That was supposed to read, "...cures CRS". I think I hosed it by clicking
too fast in spell check.

Hi,

I followed the instructions but it did not help. I still get the same
biosinfo.inf error message when I try to boot my computer.

Thanks for the input,

Charles
