XP Repair locking computer

Hi all,

I'm trying to transfer a HDD with a working copy of XP Prof. SP2 to a
different PC.

I've removed the HDD and installed it into the new PC, booted from the XP
CD. After the XP installation loads I selected Install (not repair), setup
then detects the existing copy of XP and then I select the repair option.
Setup copies all the necessary files.

After rebooting XP setup continues and I get to the CD Key Screen. At this
stage the mouse is working, but after I touch *any* key on the keyboard the
mouse stops working along with the keyboard. Hence I can go no further with
the install.

I'm using PS2 keyboard and mouse and have tried without the mouse plugged in
and with several other keyboards with the same result.

Any ideas appreciated.

I'd try a USB mouse and keyboard - just make sure you change the options in
the BIOS to reflect the change.

Sorry that's not correct. The USB mouse works in the GUI but the keyboard
not does.

Should not be a driver issue - my mouse and keyboard are both USB and they
have always worked whenever I've installed or repair installed XP.

OK, if it's not a driver issue and the USB Mouse works and the USB Keyboard
does not what can be the problem. I've tried every combination of USB and
PS2 Mouse/Keyboard and I cannot get any keyboard to work in the setup GUI.

Before the GUI the NumLock and Cap Lock lights on the keyboard work but
after the Drivers are installed in the Mini Setup the lights never work
along with the keyboard.

I've noticed if you remove the USB Keyboard and plug it back in the HDD LED
flashs as the kyeboard is plugged in which seems to suggest it "finds" the
keyboard, but it still refuses to work.

Any ideas appreciated.

How many USB ports do you have? I'm assuming you've moved the mouse and/or
keyboard around?

Also, are the USB ports on the motherboard USB 1.1 or 2.0? And what are the
mouse/keyboard rated at - 1.1 or 2.0?

Have 4 1.1/2.0 USB Ports and the 1.1/2.0 Mice and Keyboards have been moved
between all the USB Ports.

Try deleting the partition and create new partition and format if you run
