XP reinstall

I upgraded a machine with XP on it. I used a new SATA drive, once I got the
drivers figured out the install went well. Now the old XP drive is marked
system, and the new drive is marked boot. The computer always asks me to
pick an OS, both XP. How do I move the system to the new drive, and then
become free to format the old one?

Physically unplug the IDE hd,start pc,enter BIOS,set SATA as 2nd boot
priority,
set cdrom with xp as 1st,boot to xp cd,at menu,install xp,new copy,delete the
partition(s),create one,let xp format & install.Once xp is running,plug in
IDE hd,
reboot to xp cd,press r For recovery,select 1 for C: press enter for
password,
typeiskPart In DiskPart,delete the partition(s) in IDE hd,create
one,press ESC
key,type:FORMAT D: /FS:NTFS D: being IDE hd Type:EXIT when thru

The Sata drive has XP installed along with many other programs. The IDE
drive (C) has no programs other than the hidded system files. The Sata (D)
has the Xp install along with updates, sp2, and several hours worth of other
data. I do not want to reinstall if it can be avoided.

You ****ed up your install;
What you did was install a second instance of winxp on D whilst leaving the
boot record on C
All your installed apps will be pointing to D in the registry.
Edit the boot ini to remove the ref to the C \winxp
Delete the win folder on C
Your boot record will remain on C and your boot drive will be D
Otherwise start over and do it properly
