What's the secret to installing XP on a serial drive? I have a computer with
no floppy but plenty of USB ports. I have a small usb floppy reader that has
a disk in it with Intel's SATA storage drivers (IHC9). I'm trying to go from
Vista (came installed on my computer) to a fresh install of XP Pro but when
I boot with a slipstreamed SP2 disk, it reads the floppy SATA drivers with
no problem (I think) then loads more files from the CD and I get to where at
the bottom the setup says "Windows will now start" or something to that
effect. I then get the blue screen of death with 2 error codes: 1)
0x0000007B and 2) 0XF78D2524. I've searched the web for these codes but I
think my floppy has the necessary drivers.
Gateway 5478
Intel G33 m/b
1 IDE input I use for my CD/DVD
4 serial inputs that I use for 2 x 250 gig WD Serial drives
4 gig memory
GeForce 8500GT video card
1 Siig parallel port (because my computer has no parallel por and I won't
let go of my HP laserJet 2100xi printer (excellent printer))

You need to press the F6 option when booting to xp cd,at F6 select the
drivers/controller to use, intel usually ships several options with its
floppy.Also,
SATA alone usually doesnt require ICH drivers unless RAID is used, see intel: http://support.intel.com/support/mot.../CS-010695.htm
