Windows XP Pro - will not install

I've got the following hardware:

Asus P5LD2
Kingston Value RAM - 2Gigs
2 Seagate SATA 320 Gig drives
1 Western Digital 320 Gig drive
2 x Maxtor 160 GB EIDE drives on Silicon Image Controller

I've got a functioning copy of Windows running off the 2 Maxtor drives, run
as a RAID. In the running copy of Windows all my drives are functioning
fine. The MB, CPU, RAM, & Video card were installed after the running copy
of Windows.

However, when I try to install a new copy on one of the SATA drives, I get a
BSOD just as Windows starts in text mode, before I choose a partition for
installation. The message is as follows:

Windows has stopped to prevent damage to your computer, blah, blah, blah...

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly
configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F blah, blah, blah...

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D663C, 0xC000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I've tried pressing "F6" to install the controller drivers that came with my
MB but it makes no difference.

Does anyone know if there's a way around this?

What are you aiming to achieve, a dual boot sys or?

I'm wanting to replace my current install. I made the current installation
in 2003 or '04. I really don't want the install on the RAID anymore as well.

I did'nt check the mobo manual for any specific bios settings or
instructions for installing the o/s on a sata drive connected to one of the
controlers. This would be my first option then....
Personally I would disconnect all hd's excepting the one you want for your
o/s (having backed up all data before the install)

The stop error is usually with regard an inaccessible boot device

All my drives run off the same controller, the onboard Intel chipset. The
only other controllers on the machine are the onboard IDE controller and the
Silicon Image ATA 133 card.

I know the Silicon Image card is not a problem because that's the controller
the current installation runs from. In other words, that's the controller I
used to make the current installation.

I also know the drives aren't the problem. When I had my previous MB in the
machine, I had to repair my current install by using the installation CD.
The CD ran fine and never generated a BSOD.

As a result, I think the problem is the Intel controller chipset (ICH7R).
The problem being the controller chipset, I'm not sure how to get around this
and install it.

turn off raid on the other 2 drives and try the install to the 3rd drive since it is not part of the original raid setup.
not the first time this type of problem has come up.

The thing is that Windows doesn't even see those two drives unless I "F6"
them during the install. Moreover, I can select from BIOS which drives the
system is supposed to boot. I've selected one of the SATA drives for the
install.

However, if I load the drivers for the two drives I have as a RAID, and
select them as the drive I want to install to I get the same error. It makes
no difference with or without the RAID drives.
