i'm installing Windows XP professional x32 from a bootable CD.
after formmating the HD the XP Setup starts copying files to the
installation folder :
"Please wait while setup copies files to the windows installation folder"
in that stage, the setup gets stuck. i get the message :
"Setup cannot copy the file : swmidi"
To retry press enter
to skip press ESC
when i push retry, the file is failing to be copied again and again.
when i push ESC to skip , i get the same message on a different file, and
again on almost all the files.
now i'm stuck with an empty laptop!! what do i do ? please help!!!
File copy problems during installation are usually caused by either a bad
installation cd, a bad cd drive, faulty memory, or a faulty hard drive.
Run memory (http://www.memtest.org/) diagnostics and hard drive diagnostics
(downloadable from the drive mfg's website) to start with. If both pass you
need to try a different install disk or an external cd drive.
