Default Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional, x64 Edition fails due to SpUpdSvc.inf

I have a problem with two new 64 bit Dell workstations received with Windows
XP already installed. I've patched them from internal WSUS servers, and all
was well until SP2. SP2 run manually fails saying:

'Setup has detected an .INF file from the beta installation that will
prevent successful installation of the Service Pack. Please see "Deleting
SpUpdSvc.inf before install in the Read.me document accompanying this
release for details on how to unblock the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2
installation.' (sic)

Note this is the correct installation file (XP 64 bit and Windows 2003 share
the same code base) per KB 914961.

I can't find any Read.me file. The release notes for SP2, once located
(http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...mspx?mfr=true),
make no mention of this section.

This message is documented for SP1 in
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true.
The suggested fix is to rename the file (in the Windows directory), reboot,
and retry the service pack. Easy. My problem is I don't have the file
anywhere on the system.

Anyone else see this?

Default Re: Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional, x64 Edition fails due to SpUpdSvc.inf

Found the problem. Uninstalled Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Beta 2. Then
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional, x64 Edition installed without
issue.
