Replacing IDE drive with SATA on NetVista 8307

My original configuration was:
Primary IDE - HD, master
Secondary IDE - CD master, HD slave
I decided to replace an old primary IDE HD with new SATA drive. I
bought Serial ATA PCI card from CompUSA and Western Digital 250Gb HD.
Using utility supplied by Western Digital I copied my old disk to w
new one, rebooted from the old HD and everything was OK. I saw my new
disk as g:\. Now I disconnected the old HD and tried to reboot with a
new HD - I am getting a screen:

Does not matter which option I choose - the system reboots. When I
choose Window Recover Console - it is asking me for a password. I
bought this PC as used - I have no idea what a password is. So here is
my first question:
How to find what is a password for Windows Recovery Console?

Up to now was a normal, but suddnly it became really weird.
By a strike of genius I decided to remove my of other HD from a
motherboard - I reboot with only SATA drive - it worked! Another
strike of genius - I placed secondary IDE drive ribbon to a primary
IDE slot - it worked again. I declared myself a genius and rebooted
for a last time (so I thought) now I am in a square one - the same
message computer constantly reboots after showing the above screen.
In despair I placed a ribbon in a secondary IDE slot - reboot worked,
but next reboot did not. I placed a ribbon back to primary IDE slot -
it worked once, second reboot failed.
So my question is - what is going on????

Here is the way to do it:

Remove your new drive but keep the SATA controller in the machine...
let it bootup, then install the SATA drivers, reboot and confirm that all is
working.

Now shut down the system, install the new drive...
then reclone.

Now...before you reboot...*remove* your original drive and allow your system
to boot from the new SATA drive
and allow your system to boot up.

Once you have confirmed that all is working, as long as you have the bios
setup to boot from the SATA drive
you can install you old drive if you need to add'l storage

Thanks for answering, but this is exactly what I did following
instruction of SATA controller driver installation.
It looks that PC tries to boot from the new SATA drive, but somehow it
fails.
If no HD is attached to IDE controller - programs boots from SATA
drive and everythink works fine.
If IDE HD is attached to controller - it works OK on the first boot,
next boot will fail. If I attach IDE drive to other IDE controller
slot - it will work too for one time. Next boot will fail.

Here is an old trick I've used before.
Disable the IDE drive in the bios.
A bios call is only required for the drive you are booting from...
the OS itself will 'see' the second drive even if it's disabled in the
bios...
and maybe your system won't hang
