Default product id not valid?

I have a xp pro cd that i have had since 2002 approx and when I install it
lately ths error message pops up that the product id is not valid (or
something like that). How do I get around this? I no longer have the original
validation code. Can you trade the old cd in for a newer one?

When you speak of the "validation code", do you mean the product key?

What type of Windows XP Professional is it? (OEM, Retail, Upgrade?)

If you do mean the product key that you enter when installing - what have
you been entering for the product key when you install it?

Default RE: product id not valid?

As in "registering the OS with MS upon installation"..If so,open the wizard
as
usual with product key numbers entered, once you get the error, locate
"register
by phone" within same window, call MS & register..
