Default Problems after re-installing XP Home

I re-installed my XP Home OS (Compaq m/c, Pentium D). After that I have been
facing the following problems
1. The standby option is grayed out. I cannot put computer to standby
2. The internal modem is not detected. So, cannot fax.
3. The screen refresh has become slow. So, when I move a window or scroll a
page, the scren movements are jerky.

I have not created any partition. Earlier there were two partitions. It is a
genuine copy of XP that I purchased at the time of buying the computer.

can anybody help me? I hope I dont have to re-install the OS.

Sounds like you did not visit the manufacturer's web page and download and
install the latest hardware drivers.
Do so.
