New drive setup

I have a system that is running fine. I purchased two SATA drives to replace
my IDEs. I do not want to mirror the drives. I want to start with a clean
install of XP Pro. However, I want to keep the system operational while I
install XP and apps to the new drive at my leisure. The new SATA needs to be
bootable to replace the C: drive I now have which will be leaving the system
once done. How do I do this?

Following after that, will the system boot to my IDE drive as usual? Will I
be able to add software to the SATA with the system booted to the IDE? Then
when the other software is installed, remove the IDE and boot from the SATA?

when you boot your system as it flicks through the bios at the bottom of the
screen you should get and option for booting and entring the bios, hit the
key for booting, mine is f11 select hard drive and then select the drive you
want to boot from, and to swich you will have to reboot.

ps you may have the option to choose the boot up version any way nwhile it
boots if it is two different versions, but then again you may not

Simply cant be done that way...Youre best bet,unplug IDE drives,install to
the
SATA hd & only have it plugged in,boot to xp cd,install xp.Once xp is
active,plug
in other drives,you'll still have orig xp intact but having anything active
during
installation of xp will not work....Also,why not run a RAID 1 if RAID is
available,
it would install xp to both hds.

Thanks for the info. I will be working on the drives next week. Glad I have
a second system to put my data drive on. That way I can continue to work with
my main system being updated.
