I am trying to install XP Pro(upgrade) onto a clean new hard drive(old one
died). It boots up asks to verify my previous version of windows xp home.
Fine, asks for xp pro cd back, and copies files over it needs for
installation. it says that it will continue setup after it reboots. it
reboots and instead of continuing setup, you start all over from scratch.
Tried 10+ times, any ideas? Thanks in advance
Youve missed a step.First,on booting to xp cd,select install xp,new
copy,delete
the partition, create one, then xp formats & installs auto...Even if the hd was
just formatted say in recovery,w/o the xp cd reformatting, the installation
fails...
Must format 1st...

If none of the above applies, and you are sure your hd is connected
properly, eg jumpers / bios options
Use the hd manu checking utility & www.memtest.org to verify your memory
