Default Getting Bluetooth Icon : Fresh XP Install & SP Install:

NutShell:

We re-installed on 3 laptops XP and SP2 and no Bluetooth Icon in control
Panel. We listed the 3 service Bulletins we tried.

Since, I got the MSDN Premium, I hand the Microsoft Engineer answer back in
2 days. Basically, reinstall XP, XP2. Wow, That didn't work. GO TRY THE
REAL PROS- The Newsgroups.

Below is the tree from the "managed" newsgroup.

Thanks,

TiSeven

Hi TiSeven,

From your description, you've originally installed a 3rd party bluetooth
stack on your laptop XP system, and now after you removed it, you even can
not find/use the original built-in windows XP bluetooth stack ,correct?

Based on my experience, the windows XP bluetooth stack is installed with
windows xp service pack2. Also, normally, after you remove additional 3rd
party bluetooth stack, the built-in one shoud work correctly. Do you get
any error or warning when you connect blue tooth devices or it doesn't
show anything? Anyway, I think you can consider perform a OS repair or
reinstall the XP2 for this.

In addition, since this is a windows XP devices specific issue, I would
suggest you consider posting in some windows platform usage specific
newsgroups. This platform&install newsgroup is mainly target developing
setup package through windows installer sdk(MSI).

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Dear Mr. Cheng

Thank you for your suggestions. We have gone back to scratch and reloaded MS
XP and the MS XP SP2 to assure a clean environment.

When loaded, no Bluetooth Icon appears in the service panel, nor will the
laptop recognize any BT dongles (we have tries Kensington and Belkin - both
are supposed to be compatible.

This issue exists with Acer, Dell HP and Panasonic laptops which leads me to
believe there is something that must be configured in the MS OS to enable the
BT services and place the Icon.

We have reviewed the following service notes:
883259
840635
911894

911894 suggested to add 'btserv' in the registry to make the Icon appear,
but this did not work. I can see the bt* files in the file system, so the
issue seems to be one of installing the service.

Please advise.

Thanks

TiSeven

Hi TiSeven,

Thanks for your reply. This seems quite unexpected. So far I haven't any
better suggestion on this, I think it would be better for you to post in
those XP platform specific newsgroup or discussion groups:

#Windows XP Newsgroups

or if this is an urgent issue, you can consider directly contact CSS for
further assitance:
