When I click on icon to a web page. 2 pages pop up. First is usele

When I click on an icon to go to a web page, two internet explorer pages come
up.
The first is totally useless and blank. Then the second one comes up with
the web page that I want to go to. How the heck do I get rid of the first
useless one? Have tried lots of things, but nothing seems to work. HELP!

Does that happen on all web sites or just one web site? If it's just
one site that's the fault of the web site. Or possibly something
nefarious going on.

What version of IE are you using, 6 or 7? What are your pop up blocker
settings and security settings in IE and does it happen sometimes or always?
Get back to me and maybe I can help? Do you have any toolbars installed and
if so what? Perhaps these things may have an effect.

I'm using IE 7 --- pop ups are blocked ---medium security --- no extra tool
bars --- happens with every shortcut created. I managed to undo it once and
have no idea how I did it, so I know it can be done, but I sure can't do it
now. LOL
