Default Video file extension

I downloaded a video from YouTube and was told it should have the .flv
extension. When I click on it, Windows (XP) says it can't open it. It
supposedly should be played with FlashPlayer, which I downloaded but now
can't find. Could it be that Windows says it can't open it because it
knows it needs FlashPlayer and it can't find it either?

Windows says it can't open it because it does not known what program to
associate files with a .flv extention. You say you downloaded but can't find
FlashPlayer. Well, you need to find it so you can install it.

Try installing it right from the source. You may have just downlaoded
the file but it may need to be installed. This page will install it for
you. Be aware that it will also load the Google tool bar if you don't
opt out. Watch for line wrap on the link.

I did download it from the source and ran the install program. I didn't
see anything about Google toolbar. How do I tell Windows what to do with
that filetype? I don't remember how to edit file associations.

you should be able to right click on the file you're trying to open and
select open with then find flash player. Mark the bos to always open
with this program.

When I click the video and select "open with", Flashplayer is not one of
the options. It really looks like Windows doesn't know I downloaded it.

Real simple solution. Download "VLC" media player (Google it) and all will be
well in more ways than one.
