typing replaces text-fix

Noticed that typing was replacing text and could not find the
reason or mention in the FAQ on how to fix it.

The fix, open a new message, on the format menu [show all menus
first step] then under Format, select Encoding, Western European
Windows, ISO is the default and the typing replaces text.

Suggest that searching for Help with typing as a keyword should
point to this fix.

Followup to microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics

I don't see the connection with XP, which doesn't seem to have a
Format menu as you describe.

If I find that typing is replacing text, I press the Insert key to get
out of Overstrike mode.
