Show Desktop Icon stopped working

My Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch bar is no longer working.
I've deleted it and recreated it (using a couple of different
methods).
No matter how I recreate it, when I press it nothing happens.
This is really bugging me and could really appreciate someone's help
to solve this!

Longshot maybe... but go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Download and run (right-click> merge) the REG file showdesktopicons.reg
Line 246 left side.

Thanks- opens up as a text file in Notepad. How do I get it to change
the registry?

The downloaded file has the correct name "showdesktopicons.reg" right?
Right-click the reg file. Choose "merge."

Save it as showdesktopicon.reg , then right click that and choose Merge.
