Default New disk and new problems

Hello,
I have just clean installed Windows XP using NTSF disk format.
I have preserved my data files from my old Win XP (FAT 32 system) and
connected that old drive as the external (USB) disk.
However the main folders on that disk are shown in 8.3 name convention, so
long names afe truncuated,
like this:
MY_FAV~1
Interestingly subfolders with long names of that folder are displayed
properly.
Where is the problem?
How to fix it?
Jack

Hello Andrew,

Just to be sure, create a backup from the hole disk before.

Best regards
