Default Install ended prematurely because of an error

We downloaded a program because we were having this problem during
install/uninstall. The program was MSICUU2.exe. We couldnt even get this
program to install! This is getting real frickin old. Cannot install anything
or uninstall anything, whether microsoft product or not.

This is what has been done so far: Updates, scandisk, defrag, clean boots,
all microsoft troubleshooting software. This has GOT to be an XP problem!

Have seen other posts similar to this, we continued on where they left off.

Any real help out there?

That program is the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. If you are having
difficulties installing it - and other programs - then there are other
problems on the computer that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, since
we don't know anything about your machine we can't give you focused
troubleshooting.

If you'd like help solving the underlying issues, please post back with
details. It will be useful to also have the recent history of the
machine. You've told us that you tried updating the machine, using
Chkdsk (there is no Scandisk in XP), defragging, and clean boots. But we
don't know what symptoms prompted all of this.

In the meantime, here are some very general troubleshooting suggestions:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:
