Default Improper CPU speed setting ???

In last 2 weeks or so I walk up to my computer and I have a screen showing
"Award Bios - Setup Utility". It says "During the last boot-up, your system
hung for an improper CPU Speed Setting. Your system is now in working in Safe
Mode. To optimize performance and relaiability, be sure the CPU speed
conforms to the specifications of your CPU. " then gives me options of
2300MHz, 1917, 1533, 1150, manual to choose from.

This genrally occurs overnight and is on the screen in the morning. (I keep
computer on 24/7 but not signed in or connected to broadband).

What is casuing this? I have done no changes to the system in recent months.
I do not know WHAT my CPU speed is or should be. How do I find that info? So
I just have been using 1917 as one of the choices but it continues to happen
to go into this fault condition at least every couple dasy or even sometimes
2x a day.

Win XP home SP 2
AMD Athlon XP-2600 1.996GHz 512K 333MHz
ASUS A7V600 KT-600 400MHz DDR-400 Motherboard

Default Re: Improper CPU speed setting ???

This is an Award BIOS so you should be able to access it by press in the
Delete Key. At system Start up tap the Delete Key and you should get into a
Blue menu screen. Use the Arrow Keys and Enter Key to get around. One of the
options should be Frequency/Voltage Control. Select the Auto or Default
setting for the CPU Host/PCI Clock. Also choose Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clk to
configure the machine as the processor manufacturer intended. Set Spread
Spectrum Modulated option to Disabled.

Press F10 to exit and Y to confirm.

Your m/b battery may be low.
Change it, reset BIOS to defaults and you can change settings to suit after
that.

mkenewbie,
Also check the fans on your computer. Such problems can be caused by
overheating.
