I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this question.
Windows said there was an update to IE7 and I let them do it. Then IE7
would not load but instead ended in an error and the option of sending a
report to Microsoft which I did. I tried a number of times and always
the same result.
Then I did a search and found a Microsoft site that said it would remove
IE7 and restore to IE6. I did this and now when i try to invoke IE, I
get a help page (the standard help page for my Sony system) . I tried
this a number of times and it always does the same thing. The site
that told me about removing IE7 is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
So, I don't even know now for sure that I have IE6 as I can't invoke it
to find out.
I've asked Sony for their help but don't really expect anything but their
stock answer to rebuild my system back to the way it was delivered to
me. So, I am asking here if anyone has any ideas about what to do.
By the way, I can still run as I use SeaMonkey for my browser.
This would be a better newsgroup to post your problem to:
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
Why uninstall IE7 rather than the two updates?
What was the Event Viewer Error Report?

Hope this helps.

Stan try a system restore to the last check point
umm I am not sure if this will help but it is woth a shot. You say you can
get to your Sony webpage on Ie. So go there and from the IE menu at the top
click help then About. That should show you your version of IE that is on
your system. Let me know if this helps

I finally got straightened out by running a restore in safe mode back
about 5 days where I knew things were OK. Thanks for your suggestion.
Did that take you to before the August Windows Updates?
