Default How to tell which app is using the internet

Even when I am not using any obvious applications my computer continues
to download "something." I have windows update disabled and antivirus
software switched off.

How can I find out which application is connecting with the internet and
stop it?

SysInternals' TCPView

Or enable and check the logging in your 3rd party software firewall.
