Default Hidden Files cannot be unchecked

What am I doing wrong? I've tried hitting default, but it goes back to
hiding the files. I try unchecking it but it won't change.

XP Pro, SR 2, all updates. AdAware, AVast,
windows defender, all updates current.

Thank you

LGo to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and
verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked
and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need
to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that
the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.
Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected and then
select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total Size, and
Free Space.

Searching from Windows Explorer opt to Search My Computer, enter
file naname and check Advanced Options and the top three options from
the
drop down menu under Advanced Options.

Hope this helps.

Wait! Got the first part, but don't know how to do the 2nd, beginning with
"Next in Windows Explorer (is that IE??)" ??

I checked View but "Details" isn't there - etc. Just need a lead or nudge...

Kim

I would have replied but I have been on holiday.

Windows Explorer -Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.
Another means of accessing Windows Explorer is Start(Windows key)+E.
