Hardware Monitor found an error again

Hi, I can't find the original post, so I thought I better repost this.. I
believe I found out what hardware was causing the problem! I didn't have
errors for some time, and then a few days ago, My computer booted on it's
own and when I came back to windows, I found my D drive (Western Digital)
was missing. it's done that a few times. I ran error checking and it came
back .. So I am buying an external hard drive.. and would like to know how
to uninstall and remove the D drive.. if when I run Everest home edition
it's listed second under drives.. does that mean it's the bottom drive? I
know how to uninstall it in device manager, but knowing windows it will try
to install it once I uninstall it.. so I best remove it.. Any help
appreciated .. thanks Rainy

You have to open the case then try and identify the drive, simply remove its
power connector. (with external power disconnected)
If your pc boots then you got the right drive, then you can think about
physically removing it.

Thanks so much DL, you have given me some good advice.. but still want to
know... unless Wester Digital is written somewhere on the drive.. how to
determine which one is the D Drive.. would it be the bottom drive? My C
drive has windows on it.. and my D drive is my storage drive.. C being the
master and D being the slave.. thanks, Rainy

Well generally you can identify by tracing the cable (not pwr cable), but it
depends whether they are ide or sata and how the PC was set up.
Generally if an ide single cable the secondry will be the middle connector -
but not allways
Or an ide cable may be connected to the secondry ide mobo connector.
(identified as IDE2)
The physical position in the case has no baring on how win sees them
The name of the drive is written on it, but then both could be WD drives.
Nor can you neccessarily check the drive jumpers as they may both be set to
cable select (if ide)

The drive manufacturer is almost always identified on the drive
itself.

This is great information.. but as I understand windows to a degree, I have
no knowledge of hard ware or what you are speaking about.. it's way over
my head!! I know they are both IDE.. that I know for sure.. as I was
told in this group that ide would be better so when I went looking to
replace my hard drives, that's what I chose.. I am just hoping I can get the
western digital out of there.. keep your fingers crossed.. lol Rainy
