Hard drives & XP

I have what may be a simple question - or maybe complex.

I have 2 network drives on my nework - and a small HD in the desktop. Can I
install programs (that I don't use often - and an load slowly) on a network
drive - would it be better to use a USB2 drive (don't have but can get one).

Any ideas? Any suggestions.

You *can* install most programs on any drive that has a letter. Network or
otherwise...

However - since your last statement is "... would it be better to use a USB2
drive (don't have but can get one) ..." then I am obliged to ask....

Why not just buy a new internal hard drive for said system?

I am concerned that I will be stuck without an I/O location - the machine
has a floppy (amazing that I no longer use it), HD. CD & DVD. I thought
about replacing the HD with a bigger one - but the machine is 5 years old -
and I would hate to put something in and then have to upgrade. The machine
has only a 40 gig - 35 used - most of my work files are on the network
drives - so most are programs or current work files.

How difficult would it be to port everything on the HD to a new one (lots of
software on it)?
