Default hard drive corruption

yesterday I partitioned my harddrive using partition magic and when I tried
to boot I get the blue screen of death. So I booted with the xp disk to do a
repair and it doesn't recognize the win xp installation so it wants me to
reformat the whole hard drive.I should have backed up my whole hard drive but
I did not.Well anyways I booted into knoppix and all my files are still
there. So is there any way to repair the harddrive so that windows can
recognize it.Or am I going to have to buy a external harddrive upload and go
with the reinstallalation.

Have you tried the support site for Partition Magic at symantec.com?

That will happen if the registry is considerably damaged.

If you re-install XP ***without*** formatting your drive,
though you will have to re-do everything...at least your data will still be
there,
though you might have to take ownership of any folders that were in your
formaer profile.

I think you can use Knoppix to backup your files to an external USB drive.
or else you could backup your data by slaving your drive to another machine

Glad you got it working...
but I'd still do a HD diagnostic and RAM test
