Double-clicking folder is launching search, why?

For some reason my double-clicking function has changed for my folders.
Instead of opening the folder the search function is launched. I can still
open the folder by right-clicking and selecting open from the menu. when I
open the right click menu, I can see that 'search' is bolded and at the top
indicating it as the default double-click. How can i change it back to open
as the default? I cant seem to find the answer in the folder options under
'tools' menu...
