Default Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files?

Hi:

When I run Disk Cleanup I have a check beside both Compress Old Files
(1,919 KB) and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files (32KB) and it does not
hang up but runs to completion. However, when I run it again immediately
afterwards it identifies the same files as if nothing is happening. Not
compressing or deleting any files.

I an running this on a Sony desktop with MCE2005 SP2 and I also have the
same problem on a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. This
is the first time that I have noticed this happening and on both computers.
I am sure that I used to end up with 0KB after running Disk Cleanup, but no
apparently no longer.

Do I have a problem with Disk Cleanup doing its thing and if so how do I
correct it?

Thanks,

ColTom2

Have used Windows Explorer to verify the files are not compressed?
Is this a recent problem?
Also note that Disk Cleanup will not delete files that have been created in
the last 7 days.

Hi JS:

I have no idea how Windows Explorer could verify that my files are
compressed or not.
I have no idea as to when this problem started.
Disk Cleanup works fine applicable everything listed in it except deleting
WebClient/Publisher temp files and compressing old files.

Thanks,

ColTom2

Compressed files are usually displayed using Windows Explorer using the
color Blue as opposed to the standard on black lettering.

Using the Disk Cleanup utility in Windows XP:

Take note on how old the files need to be and how this setting can be
changed.

Hi! I am having the same problem with xp media center but it saves 3 million
files in compress old files! I have it set on 1 day for it to delete all
files.. I can not make heads or tails out of the fix for this. Was wondering
if you had any suggestion? Thanks Patrick

Try CCleaner as a tool to remove unwanted files which include Internet
history info, cookies, temp files, auto complete and other junk. In the
'Windows' tab listing check the item types you want deleted.

Note: also available is customization, see Options/Custom to add any
other/additional folders you want files deleted from.

Sounds like you havn't deleted old Internet cache files first. There
could be 20 gigs of them.
