When opening Internet Explorer, a "joke of the day" window is loaded and
displayed. I can't seem to disable this. Can anyone help? We have XP as an OS.

What happens if you select a DIFFERENT web site as your home page in
IE?

You didn't mention which version of IE you're using. If you have IE7, run it
without any add-ons:
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
If you have IE6 and XP SP2, you can manage add-ons from IE's Tools menu.
It would be wise to run some virus/malware scans, too.
