Default Customise Icons in XP desktop

Is there a way to force XP to display the whole file name of an icon or
shortcut?

Also, does anyone know of a utility to otherwise customise the way files and
folders can be displayed on the desktop?

Open control-panel,folder options,select:File Types Select an
icon,properties,
edit...
