Default COPY TO and MOVE TO dialog boxes - slow ot respond

I am running Windows XP Home edition on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Last
week while using Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 I ran in to a problem
with the 'File-Open' dialog box. It took six minutes to populate and become
active. I thought the problem was specific to the Digital Image software
because I had no problems with other applicaitons using the file-open window.

I did some experimenting and found this... When I open the FILE MANAGER, the
window opens and populates instantly. When I select any folder or file in
the active window, and then click on 'COPY TO' or 'MOVE TO' the dialog box
appears that shows the files structure on the drive, but again, takes right
at six minutes to populate and for the hourglass to disappear.

I also have the same trouble with the 'SAVE' and 'SAVE AS' within the
DIgital Imaging software, which seems to use the same dialog box. I'm now
thinking that the dialog box is hosed somehow. Can anyoone help me with an
idea on this and how to get it restored?

Thanks for your help.
