Default computer must be restarted

When my computer starts up I receive the message that computer startup is
required; the computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Why?
It's already been restarted.

Are you configured for auto updates? Did an update just take place?

Bob

Select, Start, Help and Support, Keep your Windows up- to-date with
Windows Update, Review your Update History. Are there any indication of
failed updates?

Gerry, thanks for the reply. I'm set on auto-update. My only failed update
was back in May and it has since updated correctly. Still, evey time I
start-up, I receive the message that I need to re-start.

Do a msconfig and clear out all programs you are booting. Then test.
If no go clear out event viewer then check it after start up.
If no go boot up in safe mode and do one step at a time.
Have you tried system restore?

Bob

Can you post a copy of the actual message. I am just wondering whether
an assumtion might have been made that it relates to Windows Updates and
perhaps it relates to something else.

'the computer must be restarted before updating can continue' with a header
that states ' computer start up is required'

Gerry,

It probably is not a windows update. It may be related to my spyware (the
only other software I've recently downloaded)

Bob

What is the name of your anti-spyware programme?

Found in Google that this error may relate to a failed Adobe Acrobat
Reader update.
