Default Chinese Language support

I have the same problem - many unintelligle characters after decompression of
rar file.
Checked language installs and ALL chinese variations in my XP Professional
SP3 are checked.
Any suggestions?

WooOOoo! Not really; sometimes I just like to inject a little humour. Is
that not permitted?

It's difficult to comment fully since you refer to another post and we don't
know if you've included all details - "I have the same problem...". Are the
unintelligible characters actually Chinese (well, Chinese-looking, to the
untrained eye) or just gibberish? If this is just happening with one .RAR
file, I'd download it again or some other way get another copy and try
again. If all, try a different or updated unRARing utility, or try on a
friend's computer. But - what changed between when this worked and didn't?
Perhaps SP3?

shocked because the language is chinese.I checked the language before I
install so that's it I solved my problem.

Thanks again for the try, the other post stated he had Strange characters -
there isn't a reply just his short question.

It is not Chinese that I am seeing. Just strange looking characters &
symbols. I also had this happen when I went to download directly from
Microsoft website. So I am thinking that "language setting" isn't the problem.

Perhaps a setting is off after installing Service Pack 3. The Chinese
developer assures me that on his computer it is completely in English - using
XP Pro but not with SP3.

I have a support request going with Microsoft Tech but it isn't resolved yet.

I understand that humor is great however I was very frustrated because I am
pulling my hair out LOL

any other thoughts?

Thx,
V

Wish I *had* much hair left to pull out!

Per my other suggestions, did you try downloading this .RAR file again,
updating your unrar-ing utility, or unrar-ing the same file on a friend or
colleague's machine?

When/where *exactly* are you seeing these characters? You've said:

"after decompression of rar file" - but where? In the extracted file/folder
names? In file contents? File names?

and "when I went to download directly from Microsoft website". Where? - ON
the web page? In the download dialog box? Somewhere in the downloaded file?

You say "the Chinese developer" as if we know who he is and what bearing his
English PC has on the matter!
